The Eye at night
The Eye at night

I think the London Eye at night is a wonderful sight. I couldn’t quite get the electric blue and probably should have made the night clouds darker to give more contrast to the Eye.

spiral galaxyI was going to try water down a plughole  But I couldn’t do it, it was too difficult, so after thinking fireworks, I decided on a spiral galaxy ( M101 as you ask.) This is from a photo, obviously!

Frozen but having fun

Sue and Dave frozen but having fun

I was falling so far behind I decided i had to do something so attempted a copy of an old photo of Sue and I as kids in the snow. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to capture our cherubic faces. My first attempt was quite good but had no detail. As soon as i tried to add any dark lines the faces were transformed into grotesque masks. Several rubbings out and repaintings later i got them to a tolerable state. I failed in other ways to capture the essence of the original which I will add in a couple of days so as not to spoil your enjoyment of my effort!

Oh alright here it is

'cave painting'I tried a modern take on ancient graffiti or cave pictures. These are some of the wild creatures that roam our garden.

img044This was fun to do

Our garden walls have been written on by nature with a wonderful variety of lichen, mograffiti1ss and ferns. After a bit of googling I think the white lichen on this bit of wall is Diploicia canescens, with small patches of the orange xanthoria. There is stonecrop growing in the cracks. I was so amazed when I looked properly at the walls, how much I have taken them for granted and not really considered how beautiful they are. Most of our walls are limestone with semi-circular sandstone capping stones, but this part of the wall is right next to the house and built with the same sandstone blocks as are used for the building corner stones.

graffitiI always like the lumpy letters they use on graffiti. This isn’t really over the top enough but I’ve enjoyed doing it.

img041A second painting – tsk tsk.

I need a drink!

I had to do this quickly and try to get the impression of ice, without fussing too much over detail as I usually do. I wish I’d chosen a different colour for the background and left the blue out.

frozenAnother painting from a photo. I used watercolour pencils for this. You can see the strokes of the pencil where the water wash hasn’t completely removed them.
