Based on a visit to see the Henry Moore exhibition at Kew Gardens.  I’m sure that for some his sculptures are curiosities or just invite curiosity.   Infact when we visited another exhibition on farmland near Dumfries, we read that when one sculpture arrived the farm manager had no idea what it was and decided it was the new spare part for his tractor!  Apart from the tree, the background was kept deliberately soft to try and keep the focus on the sculpture.    Trying to copy Moore’s lines have been a bit of an education in its self.

One for real, and one for fun.  Not brilliantly happy with the tree, so there may be another one in the offing.

img142Another one that has made me laugh as I’m painting it.  Because the scanner has brightened it up, it really is best viewed from about 5 feet away.  Not because it’s bad, but you get more of the effect.  Also, what you won’t know is that I followed a friend’s advice and took an old painting (it was my original borders berlin wall one) and put it under the tap for about 5 mins and attacked it with a sponge.   All ready to use again.  I now wish I’d left more of it showing.  A  zebra with the Berlin Wall – that would have been extra weird.

img141I was going to do my sparebedroom, but didn’t think I had a spare year in which to complete the painting so when we were down in Hastings I thought the chaos of the fishing gear on Fisherman’s Beach would make a good subject.  With apologies to all those Hastings fishermen who avidly follow our website.

Okay, here is the original Nurture and the amended version.  Neither grab me at all.  My art teacher suggested that I needed to deepen the tones of the first one, which is what I have tried to do.  Still hasn’t worked though and put me off watercolours for awhile.

img134It’s an elephant with his costume on.

img133 I know I’ve got lots of earlier ones to do, but this topic gave me a bit of inspiration.  Anyway, these are the fireworks along Blackpool Prom (badly) reflected in the water.  Lots I could do to make it better but just for once I won’t self-critque

img131Well, he may be a bit over worked but he made me chuckle as I was painting him

img130This is the view of Dinton Pastures, where we walked on the last August Bank Holiday.  It hasn’t turned out quite how I expected – but when do they ever.  Scanner may have made it darker than it really is, but yes, I have been a bit heavy-handed with the tones.

img129What – another animal under another tree, Oh well.  Back when I walked the South Downs 2 years ago – remember my windmill painting? – I saw a lot of sheep and they seemed to have their own little swimming ponds with a tree every couple of hundred yards or so. This is based on my photo of that and yes it is a sheep.
