I went to Hampton Court to photograph the Daffodils and did the painting as well. You can take it two ways either it’s of Daffodils absorbed in absorbing the sun or that Sue was so absorbed in photographing them she was not only on her knees at times but also lying flat out on the ground, oblivious to all the tourist milling around. This was meant to be bright and a bit “daffodils in your face ish”
I was quite moved by the sadness of this picture – how intrusive of the press to print these images of a dying woman. I tried to capture how she must feel in this picture – I can see there are things wrong technically but this is my first real attempt at such a close up face.
Forgot to post this last week, sorry.
We went to visit some friends, and Daniella is a great young artist. Here she is completely absorbed in drawing a bowl of fruit. I tried to persuade her to join the club. Her watercolour of a piglet is excellent. Daniella lent me the paper for this sketch, and I used the wrong side of the paper, so the paint didn’t go on very well.
