Who is trading Up - Bernie or his wife

I thought this was an amusing conundrum. Is Bernie Eccleston – the diminutive multimillionaire Formula 1 boss trading up with his statuesque model wife. Or is his wife trading up into the world of yachts, casinos and the worlds playground of the rich. I always thought Bernie looked a really seedy man and have tried to paint the picture with a sketchiness to convey this. But I still feel stuck in a rut.

PS I did my usual of being so intent on the painting that I ended up with Slavica floating (yes that is her name! Perhaps it is Bernie’s pet name for her). I made her legs too short. To rectify that problem I put her on a small podium which is apt for F1. I have since found out that Slavica filed for divorce last November. Im not surprised, billions wouldn’t make me marry him even if I was the right gender.

Leafing through Guardian, at a loss for a subject on this topic, I came across a picture of potting up seedlings. Thought it would do, and decided to try it with loose washes and pen & ink. I spent two evenings getting my drawing of the hands just right, washed the paint roughly all over and then ctrading-upouldn’t see my pencil marks for the ink! Another example of spoiling a perfectly good drawing I suspect, but I’ll persevere.

trading-upPlenty of opportunities at the moment to trade up in the housing market.

trading upThe bird has decided to ‘trade up’ to the leafy suburbs from a dead end nest. I’m interested to see what other people do, as I thought it was a difficult topic to paint.
