We spent a fair bit of time waiting for the sun, but the islands are low lying (except for Hoy), which made for lovely big skies to showcase the clouds.P1000245

img115Couple of years ago I went bird watching at Mersehead RSPB, in Scotland.  I gaily walked out through the woods towards a lovely sunshiny sky and beach so when I turned round to walk back I was very suprised to see such a dark foreboding sky.  However it did mean that the trees were wonderfully backlit.

Am I on yet?

As I walked towards the pavilion all I could see were his pads. When I stopped to take a photo he looked up, probably thinking someone was coming to tell him he was on.

Waiting for Madness at Glastonbury

Waiting for Madness at Glastonbury

This is the one you have been waiting for! Actually its a small section of the crowd waiting for Madness to come on stage at Galstonbury. There were more people but they were moving too much and I was losing my composition. I feel physically ill looking at this picture because it is so far removed from what I hoped to achieve. It had its moments when i had just done the treeline, the flags and the umbrella plus a quick scamp over the figures. I should have stopped there. I painted it at home from memory. I scanned the sketch because I was quite pleased with that and knew i would ruin it with my painting.

Before the horror of painting

Before the horror of painting

Waiting for my hanging basket to grow evenly. I have a new watercolour manual and am very excited about all the techniques. The basket has been done with a candlewax base ( easy to overdo) and I have used wet on wet on the rest of the picture for the first time.Waiting

waiting1Black bears waiting for dinner. I think the bears have come out too dark,  but I’m not sure how to lighten them.
