Being a seagull in Brighton

Being a seagull in Brighton

To get a real feel for being a  seagull I painted this from real life at considerable risk to life and limb. Climbing a tall lamp post in Brighton with a loaf of bread l tied to my head I painted at great speed to capture the seagulls swooping about me. It would have been better but the council pest control officer stopped me in mid flight.

img100Okay, so some birds spend a fair bit of time on the ground (Danny the Dunnock, Colin the Chaffinch) and this is their view of the trees and treetops before they spring back into the air.

Bird's eye viewA bird’s eye view of the Great Wall of China at Badaling, which I did climb on the “hard” side and have the certificate to prove it. It was a sunny coldish day and being March there was a lot of scrubby undergrowth which is a bit boring but maybe that’s OK as the Wall is the important bit.

bird's eye viewNot in the same class as Dave’s painting but at least the bird got away.

I have attempted to capture the birds eye view of  an imminent capture  by a menacing cat.

A bittern, trying hard not to be seen, I have made him all too visible. ( This is a view as seen through another bittern’s eye.)

birds-eye-viewNot all bird’s eye views are from above. This is an amalgam of my planter full of ivies, palms etc. which I peered through, and a photo of a woodcock. I was annoyed that I put a stupid great succulent leaf right in front of the bird, which i then couldn’t disguise into something more likely to be seen in an English woodland.

birds-heron-eye-view_001My Fishpond from the viewpoint of Arnold (the Terminator) Heron who arrives each morning for breakfast in the hope that I have left the net off. Bit chocolate boxy I think – trying to draw a fountain in action was quite a challenge.
