twin-21

I started with a life sketch I did ages ago – it struck me that the twin we always carry with us is our shadow. I tried recreating the sketch in watercolour, but found that without the model in front of me, my paintings were lifeless, like plastic dolls. So I looked for a photo of someone with a shadow. I wanted to restrict my palette to recreate the effect I got with white & black acrylic, but what a ghastly result. Looks like the set of a bad Star Trek episode. Dave won’t recognise himself looking over the barranco in Tenerife. (He’s the one on the right, by the way!)

Twins and big brother

There were two sets of twins but my picture framing went wrong again. However it saved me painting another sandal. Having been very impressed by Janes textures i decided to raid the wardrobe myself. I deliberately put the converse trainers so the feet were the wrong way round. It made them look less like a pair and more like individual twins – if you see what I mean.

Whatever you do don’t accuse sandra of having one foot larger than the other – thats my painting.

img038Did you know that Richmond upon Thames London is “twinned” with Richmond Virginia USA and they both have a riverside?  Sooo, Richmond Bridge (complete with leaning lamp post) and Downtown Richmond Virginia by Manchester River, all lit up for Thanksgiving.  By the way I really took care and precision for at least a minute on each painting, but then gave up, suprise, suprise!

twins

Not exactly twins, and the picture is too big. ( I think Dave has corrected it, thanks, Dave.)

twins2My twin lambs have got a little grubby.  I found it difficult to balance getting their shape with shading against getting them to be snowy white lambs
