Any anatomical errors are down to John not being able to hold a balance for more than 10 seconds.
We went to see an exhibition of Abram Games work yesterday, maybe he’s responsible for it looking like a bad logo for a yoga school.
I’ll blame anyone but myself – maybe I should have stuck with John’s idea of drawing a bank statement.
My effort stretched the concept of balance to the limits. There’s a cricket pitch in Bushy Park which is always covered in crows and rooks searching for worms. I love their black raggamuffin look and the way they stride around the cricket pitch purposefully. I went with the view of painting a pair sitting on the railing fence. They are so black they look like (counterbalance) weights. Trouble was, you can run past them without disturbing them but if you stop they hop off the fence and walk further away .
Almost as soon as I started a rain storm came in and I had to abandon my picture and take cover, but I didn’t waste my time and did a painting from under the bushes. I ended up with water everywhere, all my paints running and messed up several sheets of my pad. But actually I quite like the cloud pic which is not a million miles from what it looked like. It looked better when I left a bottom line to the trees with white paper beneath but for some reason decided to wash over the bottom which spoilt it.
The crow pic benefited from me being forced to stop before I could oevrwork it.
