After leaving Hounslow I toured the area for a suitable subject. Rejecting scaffolded buildings as too complex, I parked in Twickenham to explore on foot. I was delighted to find this overloaded skip in a quiet side street behind the Council offices with a wall opposite which I could sit on.
After 10 minutes I gained another interested party. A respectable looking gentleman appeared and spent several minutes circling the skip and seeming to view it from different angles. I was just wondering whether he was looking for useful scrap when again he sidled towards me. “Are you painting the skip”, he enquired. “Yes, I said”. “Oh” he said, “Its amazing isn’t it. I like to do a bit of recycling myself”. Not sure what to respond we had a disjointed conversation about the waste of materials. he complimented my pciture and went away happy.
Not much to say about this one – except i am getting a little bit depressed that my paintings all look the same however hard I try to loosen my style.
As usual, by now I was frozen and my parking meter was 5 mins overun so I hastened back to take a warming break at home and a pee.
I went round the back of our house to paint the new barn conversion, but it looked so soulless compared with the original old farmhouse that I couldn’t face painting it. I comfort myself with the thought that all building was development once. I had to give a wry smile when I saw this week’s topic (perspective) – just draw a line down the lean to roof towards the vanishing point beyond the lane – some mistake I think. Obviously the O level classes on the subject have been long forgotten!
