There were three main reasons for painting this one.  First the reference was a black and white photo, so that meant using a palette of colours I’ve never (or very very rarely) used.  So it was bye bye to my French Ultramarine Blue, Raw Sienna and other best friends and hello to Quinacridone Gold, Winsor Blue, Light Red and Viridian.  The third thing was that I had read that cool colours are good for backgrounds and warm for foreground, so thought it would be interesting to make a feature of this.    I won’t say it was a fantastic success, but it I was pleased with the contrasts of back and foreground and it was fun and interesting to do.   Not quite as dark and depressing as the last one, but still not the most upbeat.  Maybe I’ll try something bright and colourful next
