Late night reading
As is her habit, sandra was reading in the gloom and I was caught by the silhouettes of shapes against the glow of light from the hallway and decided to paint it. I used any old colours from the palette and couldn’t really see what I was doing in the reduced light of the room. A bit of a muddy mess resulted. I am beginning to dread chairs and chair legs.

A lovely loose study, but still getting in the details of the scene. I didn’t really see the book straight away, maybe it’s lining up with the window, Sandra seems to be deep in contemplation (after the bottles of wine?). The blues and pinky browns aren’t muddy but give a late afternoon/early evening atmosphere.

I agree with Sue, this is good. Muted colours are good and contrast very nicely with that pale yellow. You have got Sandra’s pose so well – even the radiator looks good!

John & I really like this – you’ve got Sandra down to a tee, and it’s not muddy, but subdued in the same way what you saw was. Very clever how you’ve got the reflective surface on the table and floow. Just very atmospheric and good.
